	Subject Superusers

	This is just to explain a little about the new superusers that Lycos have started. This post is my feelings about the group, and may not represent how the others feel about it. The main critera used to choose us seems to be our activity in these forums. I doubt that "I hate Lycos" posts count, so these people may not be invited to join. As a Superuser, Lycos occasionally emails us, tells us some of their future plans, aks for our opinions and asks us to test some of their new code and ideas. In exchange, we get our names in bold in these forums. The other main advantage is that at least some of their users get a chance to see what is going on and comment on it before it gets put into effect. We'll see how effective that is as time goes on. We do not have a "direct line" to Lycos. But, I have emailed them asking about both all the 530 errors when people try to FTP and to reconsider rewriting the code for the ad-frames. If they read these forums they probably know that these are the two biggest problems anyway. We do not have some sort of mystical insight into the way that Lycos works either. In that respect all the users are the same. We have no inside knowledge of server downtimes or anything else. Since my name appeared as a Superuser I've had quite a few people email me with problems they've been experiencing. I'd really prefer it if people used the forums. This is for several reasons. Other people may have the same sort of problems and the replies may be of use to them. Although an active member in these forums i'm no all-seeing, all-knowing guru and many regulars here have a knowledge greater or equal to mine, and their replies are just as valid as any I give. It also helps if more than one person looks at a problem. I will answer all emails sent to me, but already I've had a few problems. Some people seem to block emails from Lycos addresses. I've had about half a dozen emails returned as undeliverable this week. Also, if you are going to email me please be polite. My reaction to what I read in a public unmoderated forum and my own email is very different. Being rude to me in my email is the same as insulting me to my face. You WILL get a very rude email back, be reported to both Lycos and my ISP and permanently added to my blocked email list. This morning I did this to the first individual (apart from spammers and other stupid people) in 6 years. Ray
